100th Day 2017

Yay! Today was the 100th Day of kindergarten! (And, it was the first time that it occurred on on the actual 100th day ~ no snow days to postpone it this year!) As always, the kids had a great time, but what was a little different was the fact that it wasn't as "party" as in past years. Today was late start Wednesday, and the book fair! Throw in the fact that our day is chopped up into a bunch of little slices of time didn't allow us time to have a bunch of parents in to run our activities party-style. But, as I said, the kids had fun. (Plus, they didn't know any different...) Here are some pictures of our fun day. 

I was impressed by by the cute, creative tee shirts the kids & their families created. lol I noticed the day count chart by the calendar still says "99!" This photo was taken before we had our morning meeting. 

The kids had fun creating structures from red solo cups. They were excited when I told them that we can keep them out for playtime. What a fun & cheap STEM activity!

What does 100 look like? It was fun comparing bags of 100 items. I enjoyed listening to the students as they described different aspects of each material. As an optional activity I asked parents to take a pic of their child with a collection of 100 large items. I put them into  a slideshow for the kids to watch as they ate their 100 piece snack.

Flash forward 95 years! The Kinders has fun imaging themselves as 100 year olds. Their portraits included glasses, gray hair, and even a few wrinkles. Once they created their pictures they wrote about what they would do when they are 100. They have some good ideas!

It took a while, but the kids did a great job moving through the ten plates of snacks. They carefully counted out 10 of each item onto their plates. I stood at the end of the line and dumped everything into the paper lunch bag they had decorated for their special snack. This year I was able to find ten yummy treats that  were safe for nut allergies.Our school nurse gave me a list from "FARE" a website about food allergies. It's surprising how many good tasting things are available.

The kids had a great day & I'm super tired. :-) How do you celdbrate the 100th day of school?

100th Day 2016

Last Thursday was our 100th Day of school. (It was supposed to be last Wednesday, but we had a two hour fog delay - turned day off in August. Yup, August. Click HERE to see pictures of the fog.) Well, at least we didn't have to wait until February for our 100th Day like we've done in the past.

Here are some pictures of our 100th Day fun.

1. Counting our collections of 100 small items. I made those mats  a few years ago ~ they are perfect for counting by 10s.

2. Creating ten frame books with 100 rubber stamp imprints.

3. Collaborating to create gumball machines with 100 gumballs.

4. Doing 100 exercises. The little guy in the first picture did a few (not 100 ~ lol) one handed push-ups!

5. Doing "100" papers. These kiddos are drawing themselves as 100 year olds.

6. Eating "100" cookies. The kids were so surprised & excited when I told them that they were going to be able to eat 100 cookies. :-)

7. The hands - down favorite activity of the day ~ working together to make a structure with 100 red solo cups. We had three sets so there wasn't a huge wait for this activity. I left one set out for the kids to use at playtime (there are no longer 100 in that set...).

As you can see in this picture most of the kids wore special 100th Day shirts. I love the creativity that went into making them. The kids had a blast, the parent volunteers were great, and lasting memories were made. We  had a super 100th Day of kindergarten!

100th Day 2015

We FINALLY got to have our 100th Day of Kindergarten.  It should have been last Wednesday, but with snow days, it was pushed to yesterday.  But, you guessed it ~ another snow day!

We had two of our little sweeties stay with us over the weekend.  We built "Jeremy the Snowman" on Sunday.  By Monday he looked "a fright!"  Soon to be five Isabella said that he reminded her of the snowman in the book (Snowmen at Night).  Her mommy (daughter Sarah) is also a kindergarten teacher, so I was sure to text her ~ being the teacher nerds that we are, Isabella's text to self connection made us very excited!  We had an extra day of fun yesterday.  

Well, back to 100th Day...

Writing their name as many times as possible in 100 seconds, writing 100 tally marks, creating books with 100 rubber stamp imprints, and doing 100 exercises.

It started snowing shortly after school let out.  The weather man predicted another 1 - 3 inches over night & maybe a little freezing rain mixed in...  

Crazy Indiana weather!  I'm so happy that we finally reached our 100th day of kindergarten!  

100th Day 2014

It took a long time to get to 100 days of Kindergarten (so very many days off because of snow & crazy cold temperatures), but we finally got to have our 100th Day Celebration yesterday!  It was So. Much. Fun!  I thought I would use our 100th Day fun for my Five for Friday.

 My teaching partners and I dressed up as 100 year old ladies.  (I'm the one in the lovely frock on the right.  FYI ~ I'm wearing a wig!  My hair is not really that color! lol)  We had so much fun.  Of course, I really hammed it up pretending to be an old lady.  I don't think I've ever called the students "whipper snappers" as many times (if ever) as I did yesterday.  The Kinders knew we were dressing up, but the other kids did not.  We teachers stand outside our doors as the kiddos enter the building ~ the looks on the first & second graders' faces were priceless!  And, I have to say other teacher & parent volunteers were pretty amused by our oldster antics yesterday!  This will definitely be an annual event!

 This year we made 100 fish Schools of Fish bowls.  With the help of a parent volunteer, my little sweeties made four different bowls of fish.  They counted out groups of 10 fish, and glued them to the large fish bowls.  After completing the task, the parent volunteer helped them to fill out their school information.

 The bowls are now hanging in the hallway for all to see.

The "Schools" were given a name & the student roster was filled out.  The "teachers" are the students who helped to count & assemble the fish students.

I was so fortunate to have lots of volunteers ~ two grandmas, one grandpa, two moms, and one dad ~ to help with our 100th Day activities. (And, this was after another postponement of our 100th Day!  Our original rescheduled 100th Day was supposed to be Wednesday.)  I love the fact that parents & grandparents are able to volunteer in our classroom.  Their presence adds so much to the lives of my little students, and I am so thankful for their enthusiasm and help!  These pictures are of two more of our 100 themed stations ~ creating booklets of 10 ten frames stamped with 100 stamps, and completing a variety of 100th Day themed puzzle & activity pages.

 The Kinders made necklaces of 100 Fruit Loops ~ with a pony bead between each group of 10 cereal pieces.  To make it easier for the kiddos to keep track of their cereal pieces, they first placed their Fruit Loops onto a 100 chart.  I used a stiff beading string for the necklaces ~ much more kid friendly than yarn or string with tape on the end.  It was a little more pricy than regular string, but happily our PTO allotted $200 for Kindergarten 100th Day Celebration materials!  (We have a fabulous PTO comprised of supportive and dedicated parents who really work to make our little school the best it can be!)

 100 piece snack. The Kinders created a tasty snack of ten pieces of ten different treats with the help of a volunteer grandma.  They really liked the fact that Skittles & M&Ms were a part of their choices!

 Counting 100 items.  Each child brought in a collection of 100 small items to count by ones, tens, fives, and twos.  I made the counting mats last year.  They are laminated & should last for years to come.  It was interesting to see the collections that they came up with ~ I don't think anyone brought the same items!

 No 100th Day Celebration would be complete without crowns & a little bit of writing!

100th Day!

Hooray, hooray!  It's 100th Day!  Today we had our much anticipated 100th Day of Kindergarten!  My Kinders and I were so excited to come to school today.  Our day was filled with all things 100 - everything from counting to crafts.  I took lots of pictures, of course.  I wish I had permission to show the kiddos' faces because the look of excitement and delight as they worked *quietly* in the six different 100-themed stations.  Yes, they worked quietly!  There was happy chatter around the room, but no crazy noise.  I was tired at the end of the day, but very happy - this has got to be my best 100th Day ever!

 The 100 Club.  "Members" join by counting to 100 for me.  Once they count to me, they get to write their name on their "membership card" with a Sharpie (more fun than a regular marker...)

100 piece snack - the kids counted out 10 pieces each of 10 different treats with the help of a volunteer dad.  (I was so lucky to have seven parents come it to help with our activities!)

Kinder Bakery - working in small groups, the kids counted out 100 sprinkles to create one of a kind cupcakes with the help of a mom.  They filled out a "recipe" card (see below).

I got the idea for these counting mats from Pinterest. They are laminated so that I can keep them from year to year.  (I made a class set because I thought they would be helpful when we study numbers to 100.)  The kids brought 100 small items from home, and with the help of a mom, they counted them by tens.

After placing a Fruit Loop onto each space of a 100s chart, they created colorful necklaces.  They placed a pony bead after each 10 "Loops."  
I didn't take a close-up, but the little slips of paper seen in many photos are the kids' schedules.  When they visited a station, they got a sticker.  Click *here* for a copy.

 100 Stamp Books.  Using 10 ten frames and 10 different rubber stamps, they kids had fun creating a unique book to practice counting by tens to 100.

 Secret code.  This is an older resource shared by one of my fabulous teaching partners, so I don't have a link.  Kinders filled in numbers on a 100s chart to reveal a hidden picture. 
 

As an optional activity, students & parents were invited to send me a photo of a collection of 100 items that were too big to fit into a zipper bag.  Several students did so, and we enjoyed a fun slide show as we ate our 100 item snack.  One little girl's collection was so creative, I asked her mom for permission to share it on my blog.  Happily, she has allowed me to share this fun collection.
